About Me

Howdy ya’ll, I’m Avery — also known as Ave(s), also known as Avenue. (Hence my business’ name. Brilliant, right?) I make things. Things to wear, mostly (like jewelry and scarves), but also things to look at or send in the mail (like collages and notecards). You can buy things made by me on Etsy.
I’m currently a full-time MFA student in addition to teaching undergrad writing classes, which obviously takes some time away from my crafty and bloggy ventures. I still manage to participate in a couple of Richmond craft shows per year, and am trying to keep the Etsy shop at least somewhat stocked at all times. So this blog may occasionally go without posts for days or weeks (or months!) at a time when I’m particularly swamped with my poetry and teaching responsibilities.
Besides school, work, and crafty stuff, the hubby and I have a LONG list of home improvement projects we’re chipping away at, not to mention the hours we spend in our edible garden (which in its inaugural year turned out bushels of tomatoes, cabbage, cukes, lima beans, eggplant, kale, salad greens, a few carrots, and more basil and mint than I knew what do with). Oh yeah, and I’m certifiably obsessed with food and cooking, too. Which is just to say that I write about all those things and more, so my posts are always…shall we say: eclectic, if sporadic.
Got a question? Just ask. I’m nice. Really. And I check my e-mail often frequently all the time: avenuehandmade[at]gmail[dot]com. And please feel free to chime in with your two cents at any time, whether through comments or e-mail.
